Worn Out Complaints

shoes-2060034.jpg

My complaints are old and tired, like my favorite hiking shoes. Bought against my sister’s wishes. Now tattered and torn, ripped and unhinged, they are ready for the trash.

Those shoes supported me.

If they don’t work any more ~ toss them.

Mama needs a new pair of shoes.

No Control

I am a child of the sixties. I have memories.

I was getting on the school bus, when I was told President Kennedy had been shot. I was climbing those three, tall steps, covered with black, rubber matt, when Miss Brubaker, the driver, was telling us about it. I had the awareness that this was news of consequence. I watched her from my green, vinyl seat, trying to comprehend the meaning of it all. Everything looked the same; the green grass, the outdoor basketball park, the low, white buildings that were our classrooms. On such a dark day the sun was shining bright.

I was told by my teacher, that I must watch the funeral. It was history. Continue reading No Control

My Kind of Christmas

Matthew 14:17-21
They said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” And He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets. There were about five thousand men who ate, besides women and children.

A Turtle~An Earthquake~and A Wolf at My Door

I’ve recently arrived home from a short road trip.

In Costa Rica, it’s best to be prepared for the unexpected. On the second leg of my journey; the first being a trip to Parrita,  I found myself spending the night, at a favorite haunt. An old style Tico palapa, right on the beach. It’s a gathering place for turtle lovers. We share meals there and swap stories. Continue reading A Turtle~An Earthquake~and A Wolf at My Door

Turtle Trail

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was traveling down a trail, chasing a turtle ~ the day had just begun; it had promise.

The red clay, rock laden road, led to the beach of my dreams. The water was aqua, warm and inviting. The beach was lined with palms.

The waves were FULL of surfers.

The turtle looked at me, and said, “you better not drop in on me.”
