1984

Once again I checked out the Daily Prompt. It’s a question. You’re locked in a room with your greatest fear. Describe what’s in the room.

I guess that’s not really a question. What are you most afraid of? That’s a question.

I read 1984. I read it in 1971. The main character was locked into a room with rats. That was his greatest fear, and his tormentors, the government, knew what terrified him most. That’s the way I remember it.

I recall thinking about that, with genuine concern. I asked my teacher, How did they know?

Just use your imagination. It use to be quite a stretch, but not anymore. Big Brother is definitely watching us.

Radical Obedience

I re-blogged this post because of the claim of RADICAL obedience. I believe in following the guidance of the Holy Spirit! Amen~

“If my goal at one time was to be a Bible teacher making an impact through communication, now it is to simply be a Christ-follower making an impact through radical obedience.”

My Favorite Cowboy

There’s no doubt in my mind, my favorite cowboy, is my brother, Danny.

Browsing through WordPress, I stumbled on a prompt; the idea of the day, to write about; MY FAVORITE.

I began to think about that: which is my favorite beach, my favorite hotel, my favorite wave, photograph, painting. No, I just couldn’t come up with anything, because as soon as an image surfaced, another would compete.

Then I thought about my brother. He’s my one and only. I can definitely call him my favorite. And he happens to be a cowboy.

100_4330I’ve travelled as far as Oklahoma to watch him ride. He’s a team roper. This involves two cowboys, one that ropes the head of the steer, while the other ropes the back heels. With a short burst of energy, swinging their lasso, galloping wide open, they track and capture the animal, while racing against the clock. It’s a cattleman’s skill, turned into a competition.

I saw many similarities in cowboys and surfers. They like to congregate. They do what they do and then they talk about it. They dress alike. We wear bathing suits and flip-flops. They wear blue jeans, long sleeve shirts and boots. We wear sun screen and they wear cowboy hats. Their spectators are in the stands, while ours are on the beach. They chase rodeos like we chase waves. And at the end of the day, we all like to kick back and watch the sun set.100_4359This rare picture of us together was taken at a local, annual fair, 2009. It was a blast. Not only watching the ropers, bull riders and clowns, but just being with my brother.

The beach and cowboy trail rarely intersect. That’s just the way it is. We would have to go out of our way to visit one another. I’ve been meaning to look him up.

A note of interest: he thinks surfing is scary!

Adventurer

100_0253Most people who like Mexico or read travel magazines, are going to be familiar with this famous spot. This is the point at Cabo San Lucas. It is the tip of the Baja California Sur. It’s a hot spot, destination for those that want to get away100_0264This is Lovers Beach. I took this photo, knowing, I would want to tell this story. It was shocking for me to see these people piled up like this. But really, I don’t know why. That’s just what people do. My friend and I bought tickets on a boat to ferry us over. This is NOT what I would do left on my own.100_0270This is me on the other side of the rocks, away from the people. I was alone. On this side of the island, there is no land shelf. It just drops off. You stand there and have the feeling that you are in the middle of the ocean. I climbed into the rocks and took this picture. I pointed the camera and said “Cheri _____ ADVENTURER”!

ADVENTURE

I have always had an adventurous spirit. Wikipedia calls it, bold, risky and extreme. It’s the spirit that caused me to take off on a bus ride, while in Cabo, that inspired the post~ No Fear. I’ve been taking off, on “trips,” all of my life.

I’ve never concerned myself with the norm. It seems like a risky adventure these days to not get a face lift. What will people think! OMG, I’m older and I have wrinkles!

Regardless of weather the adventure is traveling, financial or just getting through the day, it will be negative, fear related, or positive, in the flow.

Helen Keller once said, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all”.

No face lift for me and Costa Rica here I come.

IMG_7482shsSomeone, somewhere would enjoy this picture. Because it’s them! This photo is yet another from Hurricane Sandy. I know Sandy caused horrific destruction on the northern coast, but it generated a few days of great surf here, on Amelia Island.

This particular wave, like many that I took, was shot early in the morning, into our Eastern sun rise.

Secondhand Surfer now has a Facebook page and this is my photo entry for the day.

I plan to post one a day this year.

Keep it Simple

129859986187026572Note to self – Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all small stuff.

This picture was taken about 1996, under the tree in front of Lola’s, (Playa Avellanas, Costa Rica) when Lola’s was still called Freddie’s. I didn’t know at that time, that I was going to sell my home, in Fernandina Bch, Florida, and leave the United States.

It’s been a good journey, so far. i just wanted to remind myself to keep it simple, one day at a time and everything’s gonna be alright!
